Press Release: MultiMiner Results and Impact Summit Concludes Successfully in Rovaniemi, Finland
ROVANIEMI, FINLAND, April 2026
The MultiMiner Results and Impact Summit, a landmark two-day conference held on 21–22 April 2026 at Hotel Santa Claus in Rovaniemi, Finland, has drawn to a successful close. The event brought together Europe’s leading researchers, geoscientists, policymakers, and industry experts to celebrate the major scientific achievements of the MultiMiner project and chart the future of data-driven mineral resource management.
Funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 10109137474), MultiMiner has pioneered the use of Earth observation (EO) and machine learning (ML) technologies to transform mineral exploration and mine site monitoring across Europe.
A Showcase of Scientific Excellence
Over the two days, participants engaged with a rich programme of keynote presentations, expert panel discussions, and hands-on training sessions. The summit highlighted the project’s most significant outputs, including innovative methods for mineral prospectivity mapping, advances in data harmonisation across national boundaries, and new tools for timely and accurate mine site monitoring.
The hybrid format of the event, combining in-person attendance in Rovaniemi with online participation via Microsoft Teams, ensured that stakeholders from across Europe and beyond could engage with MultiMiner’s findings, regardless of location.
Advancing Europe’s Critical Raw Materials Agenda
The summit underscored the strategic relevance of the MultiMiner project at a time when Europe is intensifying efforts to secure its supply of critical raw materials. By providing geoscientists and decision-makers with powerful, satellite-based tools for prospectivity analysis and environmental monitoring, MultiMiner contributes directly to the EU’s ambitions for resilient, sustainable, and domestically sourced mineral supply chains.
The event also served as a clustering opportunity, connecting the MultiMiner consortium with complementary European research initiatives, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across the broader Earth observation and geoscience community.
Looking Ahead
The MultiMiner consortium will continue to work to make its tools, datasets, and methodologies openly available to the research and industry community. The event precedes the release of dedicated training materials which are designed to make our tools and outputs accessible for further uptake. Project deliverables and further information are accessible via the MultiMiner website, with training materials following in the coming weeks.
